State Street Condo — Krista McGowan

The Client

Krista has a unique sense of style and craved a space that reflected her love of atomic design. Her family lives abroad and wanted a space to call home during stateside visits.

Their Unique Design Needs

Working from a distance was key for this project. All aspects of design through project management were coordinated via digital communication. This included the coordination of cross-country shipments, custom furniture commissions, and working with various specialty contractors.

The Solution

A fresh coat of paint and cork flooring was used as a base to update the overall style of the unit. Vintage furniture pieces and accessories were selected with the client’s personal style in mind.

Jennifer was efficient, patient, and incredibly helpful. Her vast expertise and professional, yet caring, manner set me at ease. She listened to what I wanted and helped me work within my budget. Thanks to her, I have a beautiful new space that I am beyond in love with. I cannot recommend her enough!

At the entry to the unit a set of reclaimed locker baskets were given a new life as a statement piece to welcome you into the home. The deep orange powder coating was chosen to emphasize the playful attitude of the space. While the plywood layers give a nod to the origins of the baskets.

Selecting an eclectic mix of furniture and accents lend themselves to the fusion style of the space. Vintage pieces like the Danish sofa bed and the modern open back accent chair work well together.  The urban graffiti photograph fits right in with the mid-century buffet. While the atomic-styled lighting adds a dramatic pop of color in unexpected places.

Working in small spaces means the need to get creative with furniture placement. In this case a pair of custom bunk beds fill the space of an existing closet and provide ample room for a play space for the kids.
