Edgemoor Great Room — Peggy Alexander

The Client

After a two-year long process of updating the entire main floor of her home, Peggy knew it was time to address extreme sun exposure in the great room. The two-story window walls in the corner of the Great Room face West towards Bellingham Bay. The expansive view out to Lummi Island and beyond is really something special.

Their Unique Design Needs

Although the set of large windows provide much needed light in the winter months the summertime rays overheat the space quickly. Unfortunately, the hardwood floors and upholstery would also begin to fade if the UV rays are not dealt with appropriately.

The Solution

With the goal of a clean and streamlined aesthetic in mind only one shade was right for Peggy’s space. The Silhouette® shade from Hunter Douglas directs softened light into her room while filtering out up to 88% of the harmful UV rays. To manage the heat and cut back the light we used the Duolite® feature to add a room darkening roller shade within one housing. The entire set of shades are controlled by the push of a button using PowerView® Automation.

I love the versatility of the shades. In a space that can go from bright sunshine that can get very warm and needing sunglasses, to dark and cold in the winter, the shades allow me to adjust to the brightness and still let in beautiful light.

Peggy also notes:

The shades also allow me to darken the room for TV viewing or maintaining the warmth on very cold days. The room darkening second shade is an option I would not want to be without.

I was not aware of the options that were available until I worked with Fresh Space ReDesign.

Jennifer helped me achieve a very clean and streamline appearance with such amazing function. She worked with me in each space of our home to customize each space for appearance and function. The shades were meticulously installed with attention to detail and best of all completely programmed specifically for us. I would use them for any selection of shades, drapery, and installation.
